CEMP News

January 14, 2018 - What joy exuded from the parish hall of St. Christopher's this past Sunday when we had 35-40 people show up to play games and fellowship with each other, including three guests that simply stumbled upon us. We played all kinds of games, chatted with each other, and shared pizza and other snacks. In my opinion, our first CEMP Social Gathering was a resounding success! Check out the pictures here. Enjoy.

On Sunday, October 29th, St. Paul's hosted our 5th Sunday celebration. Not only was it the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, we were also blessed to add two new confirmed members to our St. Paul's faith community during Bishop Doug Sparks' official CEMP visitation.

In the midst of this celebrating, there was also sadness. The Rev. Canon Michael Dwyer, Priest-in-Charge since the inception of CEMP, celebrated his last Sunday with us. Fr Mike and Jane have taken a call closer to home. We will miss them so.

Here are some of the pictures from the day.

On October 26, 2017 the CEMP Leadership Council, plus all 5 vestries, met at St. Christopher's in Crown Point. The minutes from that meeting can be found here.

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

In my last email notifying you that I would be leaving the Partnership I promised to keep you all posted as things developed. Well, things have moved along much quicker than I had anticipated. I have received a call to be Interim Rector at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Flossmoor, IL. I will begin this new ministry on November 1, 2017. So…, my last day with the Partnership will be Sunday, October 15, 2017; this will allow me a brief rest in between.

I am still here with all of you until October 15th and will continue to be of service to you. Please keep Jane and I in your prayers, as you are in mine, as we all discern and pray for the Spirit of God to continue to lead us.

Peace and All Good,

Fr. Mike

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

By the time you read this many of will have heard that I told the Leadership Council on Thursday night that I will be leaving the Partnership. This decision was made after much discernment, prayer, discussion, and thought with God, the Bishop, and Jane (not necessarily in that order). Let me be clear: there are no health issues nor am I being forced out-this is entirely a decision that Jane and I have made together.

It may be that I will officially retire next year, my last day being Easter Sunday (April 1, 2018). In March of 2018 I will have been with you for six years and I will turn 70 years old. Time to consider new chapters in our lives and new adventures. When I met with Bishop Sparks, he gave me permission to talk to the Diocese of Chicago to explore work options with them.

My ministry with the Partnership has been wonderful and enriching and yes, at times, difficult. However, we have all learned to rely on God to show us the way and to trust one another; and that is the most difficult and enduring thing we have learned-to listen for God's voice through one another. That is one of the many gifts of the Partnership, to rely on one another. This is the gift that will carry all of you into God's future. All of you are ready to move forward in God's Creation; to move forward not as individuals but as Children of God together.

I must thank each and every one of you for letting me be your priest, for letting me into your lives, your joys and sorrows, your questions, your wisdom, and your love.

We will keep you posted as things develop. We will keep you in our prayers. Please pray for us as we move forward in God's plan.

Peace and All Good,

Fr. Mike

Congratulations to Pastor Beverly Collinsworth who took the Oath of Conformity to become an Episcopal Priest (pictured below with Mother Michelle Walker and Father Mike Dwyer). Pastor Beverly has delighted the partnership with her presence for several years as an ELCA minister and now officially becomes part of The Episcopal Church. We love you Pastor Beverly!
